Scope and content
Arthur Marion Brumback (1903-1905) - Linfield’s eleventh president, born in Boise, Idaho, in 1869 and died in 1916. Brumback was the head of the science department at Linfield before his time as president, and he even played on the college’s football team. During his time as a professor, he engaged in archeological activities now considered grave robbing, which the college recognized in 2020 - leading to a street previously named for him to be named in honor of the Grande Ronde tribe. As president, Brumback made many plans to pull the college out of debt but soon realized his attempts were futile, leading to his resignation at the end of the 1905 school year. Brumback then returned to Denison University as a professor of chemistry, the same college where he had completed his undergraduate studies. Brumback did additional graduate studies at the University of California.
