Scope and content

Edward C. Anderson (1881-1887) - Linfield’s eighth president, born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1821. After completing his education and moving to the United States, Anderson held many positions in education and the church, working as a principal, pastor, and college president throughout the country. During his presidency, Anderson was noted for constructing Linfield’s Pioneer Hall, which still stands today. Furthermore, Anderson was known fondly despite his presidency's toll on him. The many stressors of Linfield’s early years led to his health declining, forcing his retirement. Anderson completed his undergraduate studies at Acadia College in Nova Scotia before immigrating to the US and completing theological studies at Newton Seminary in Massachusetts.
