Scope and content

Harry L. Boardman (1896-1903) - Linfield’s tenth president, born in 1866. Boardman was the president following the renaming of the college from Baptist College at McMinnville to McMinnville College. Boardman attended the Baptist College in the 1880s, eventually becoming a pastor in Eugene, Oregon. Soon after, Boardman became president amid deep financial troubles for the college. He tried to prevent the college from gaining more debt, but they made little progress. During his tenure, the college obtained its second campus building, the observatory, which can still be found on the Linfield campus. After studying at Linfield, Boardman continued his undergraduate studies at Colfax College in Washington and the University of Chicago. He died in 1953 in Los Angeles.
