Biographical Note: Samuel Herman Graf was born to Samuel and Emilie Graf on August 4th, 1887, in Bethany, Oregon. Graf attended Oregon Agricultural College starting in 1903, and recieved a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1907, an electrical engineering degree in 1908, a bachelor's in mechanical engineering in 1908, a master's in mechanical engineering in 1909, and a master's in electrical engineering in 1909. From 1909 to 1954, Graf served in various faculty roles at Oregon State University, as an instructor of mechanical engineering, head of experimental engineering, head of the Department of Mechanics and Materials and Department of Mechanical Engineering, director of engineering research, and director of the Engineering Experiment Station.
Graf was a member of the State Board of Engineering Examiners, the American Society for Metals, the American Society for Testing Materials, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Graf was a member of numerous academic honor societies, and served at Linfield as a member of the board of trustees from 1954 to 1966. Samuel Graf died on July 22nd, 1966.
