      Biographical Note: Dr. Lester Earle Shipley was born in Sylvan, Oregon, on August 1st, 1916 to Earle and Adelia Shipley. Dr. Shipley graduated from Linfield College in 1938, earning a degree in education. before continuing to earn degrees at Eastern Theological Seminary and the University of Pennsylvania. Shipley married Geraldine Powell on June 27th, 1941, and the couple moved to Los Angeles in 1944, where Dr. Shipley founded and pastored the Westchester American Baptist Church. In 1955, the Shipleys moved to McMinnville, with Dr. Shipley taking the role of assistant to Linfield's president Harry Dillin for nine years. Following his tenure at Linfield, Shipley went on to work at Berkeley Baptist Divinity School, as vice president and head of public relations. In 1969, Dr. Shipley started work as the director of community rlelations for American Baptist Homes of the West, and retired in 1983. Dr. Lester Earle Shipley died on February 9th, 2005, at the age of 88.
