General note
Biographical Note: James C. Howland was born on June 2nd, 1916, in Oregon City. Howland graduated from Oregon City High School, then attended Oregon State University and the Massachussets Institute of Technology. Howland served in the South Pacific during the second World War, and upon his return co-founded Cornell, Hayes, Howland and Merryfield, a major international engineering company. Howland was active in civic organizations such as the Madison Avenue Task Force and the Corvallis Riverfront Commission, and served as a trustee emeritus for Linfield College, as well as a trustee for the Linfield Research Institute. James Howland died on August 28th, 2008.
