General note
Biographical Note: John Edwin Shapland was born in Magna, Utah, on August 30th, 1923. Shapland was raised in southeast Portland, graduating from Franklin High School and starting his education at Linfield College. With the breakout of World War II, Shapland left college to join the military, serving in England. After the end of the war, Shapland returned to Linfield, then started working at the First National Bank of Oregon. Shapland married Ruth Lindsey in 1950, and raised five children. Shapland worked his way up to become the Vice President of the First National and First Interstate Banks, and retired in 1985. John Edwin Shapland died on May 10th, 2012.
