Biographical Note: Floyd "Scotty" H. Edminston was born near Willamina, Oregon, to Harry and Mamie Edminston on September 25th, 1915. He graduated from Willamina High School, then attended Linfield College for one year before transfering to Oregon State, where he graduated in 1939 with a degree in Forestry. Edminston worked in logging until joining the US Navy in 1942. Edminston was assigned to the USNR Midshipmans School at Columbia University, and after being commissioned saw service in the American, European, and Pacific Theaters until being separated from active duty in 1946.
He retired from the USNR at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In 1940, Edminston married Esther Beal of McMinnville, but they were later divorced. Their adopted son, Larry, died in 2004. Edminston began working in the lumber industry again after returning from active duty, and started work as a forester for the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Salem District in 1957. In May of 1961, he married Helen Weaver of Salem, and lived in Salem until 1968 when he transferred to the Eugene district of BLM., where he worked until retiring on December 31st, 1977. Edminston was a Past master of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite in Sheridan, Oregon. He also belonged to the Florence Elks and the Eugene Eagles. He was a life member of the Theta Xi. Floyd H. Edminston died in Eugene, Oregon, on April 23rd, 2009 at the age of 93.
