Algemene aantekening

This collection contains papers, media, teaching materials, awards, photographs, equipment, and other items related to the Linfield Research Institute at Linfield College (now Linfield University). The collection should be considered partial as additional materials may be added in the future.

Algemene aantekening

The Linfield Research Institute was established at Linfield College (now Linfield University) in 1955 to promote undergraduate and faculty research. Initial funding came primarily from United States military defense agencies, and research topics mainly focused on the physics of military science. Throughout the 1960s, the Institute expanded into biological and natural science research and earned significant coverage in local, regional, and national media. Successful companies emerging from LRI included Field Emission Corporation, FEI Company, and Applied Physics Technologies.

Operations at the Institute wound down in the 1970s, but were revived on a smaller scale from the late 1980s through late 1990s. While the Linfield Research Institute still exists today as a 501(c)(3) organization, it is largely inactive.
